  Tesla Tesla is a multinational clean energy car company originating from the United States. Tesla was established in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning as Tesla Motors , later on in February 2004, via a $6.5 million investment, Elon Musk became the company's largest shareholder before he became CEO of Tesla Motors in the year of 2008 . Tesla began production of its first car model, the Roadster sports car that year. Followed by the Model S sedan in 2012, the Model X SUV in 2015, the Model 3 sedan in 2017, and finally the Model Y crossover in 2020. The company also has future plans for diversifying their production of cars by adding the Cyber Truck (light-duty pickup truck) to their fleet in 2023. Although the Model 3 is the all-time bestselling plug-in electric car worldwide, and in June 2021 it became the first electric car to have 1 million units manufactured.
